Pull up a chair. Health talk for folks 55 and up. About us

Pull up a chair. Open Porch Health is health talk the way good neighbors do it: plainly, kindly and with your family in mind.

We write for folks 55 and up, and for the husbands, wives and partners sitting beside them. Some of the best health conversations happen at the kitchen table or out on the porch, and that's the feeling we're after.

What we talk about

The heart, blood sugar, weight, men's health, sleep and the worries that keep you up, and staying active as the years roll on. Everyday questions, everyday answers.

How we write

  • We start from real, everyday situations: the cookout, the grandkids, the long drive.
  • We talk to couples, not just one person.
  • Our articles are based on published research and trusted health sources, and we list those sources at the end of each article.
  • We always say when it's time to see the doctor.
  • When the advice changes, we update the article and show the date.

You can read more in our editorial standards.

What we're not

We're not your doctor, and nothing here is medical advice. Think of us as a good place to start the conversation, and your doctor as the one who knows your health. See our medical disclaimer.

About products

Most of our articles never mention a product. When one is about a specific product, it says so right at the top, along with our business relationship.
